This was my first drive down the Blue Ridge Parkway. We got on the Parkway at Weaverville, North Carolina, and headed south. I had seen so many beautiful images of these mountains that I had high expectations. Unfortunately, it rained almost the entire day, so my images were mostly overcast or rainy. Even with that, I was still awed by the beauty and majesty of the mountains, trees, rock formations, waterfalls, and wildflowers. And, yes, green can be extremely beautiful. I am looking forward now to going back in the Fall for a different perspective. This image was taken just before the French Broad Overlook which is around the 393 mile marker.
I have been a photographer for many years. For so long, in fact, that I can no longer imagine my life without a camera to capture its special moments. It took me quite some time before I was able to connect myself to being an artist, because in my mind a photographer and an artist were two distinctly different things. While they were both creative, they used entirely different processes to achieve their artistic goals. Over time, however, I have recognized the remarkable similarities in the way that we look at visual elements such as composition, colors, lines, and light.
