Description
This exotic tropical delight is called a gout plant or Jatropha podagrica, from the Euphorbiaceae family. It has many nicknames such as Gout Stick, Buddha Belly, Guatemala Rhubarb, and Tartogo. It makes a beautiful natural bonsai arrangement, too. It can grow to heights of 2-3 feet. It has a knobby, swollen stem with red flowers that grow in large terminal clusters. This particular image doesn't show the red flowers yet, but they bloom soon. Photograph taken at Eureka Springs Park, Tampa, Florida.
