The Boat-tailed Grackle (Quiscalus major) is a large blackbird primarily found along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts of the United States. They are a noisy bird. This Grackle is an adult male. Its plumage is mostly iridescent purple-black over its body (looking shiny blue sometimes), with its wings and tail appearing more of a greenish color. I have added a digital treatment to give it a painterly appearance.
I spotted this beautiful bird perched on a fence post at Medard Park, Florida. With its head bent down, it reminded me of a Bible scripture Matthew 6:26 telling us not to be anxious about anything in our lives. It says: "Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?"
I have been a photographer for many years. For so long, in fact, that I can no longer imagine my life without a camera to capture its special moments. It took me quite some time before I was able to connect myself to being an artist, because in my mind a photographer and an artist were two distinctly different things. While they were both creative, they used entirely different processes to achieve their artistic goals. Over time, however, I have recognized the remarkable similarities in the way that we look at visual elements such as composition, colors, lines, and light.
