While traveling the Blue Ridge Parkway, just before Lickstone Ridge Overlook (mile marker 458.9), traffic came to an immediate stop. We weren't sure what was going on at first. Then we saw the most beautiful elk decked with the velvet antlers on the side of the road. We all watched as he cautiously moved around without crossing the road. Apparently, this particular elk had not been accounted for as we didn't see any tags or other markers on him. He finally had enough of hanging around and left the area.
