The Florida alligator is a natural predator that can be found in many bodies of water. This photograph was taken at a marina on Lake Trafford, which is in Southwest Florida at the mouth of the Everglades. A close-up view of the eye of this reptile shows it can be very intimidating.
I have been a photographer for many years. For so long, in fact, that I can no longer imagine my life without a camera to capture its special moments. It took me quite some time before I was able to connect myself to being an artist, because in my mind a photographer and an artist were two distinctly different things. Thank you, Kristin. It amazes me when I go to local parks, especially the ones with open lakes (no railing and no boardwalk over it). I will see people with their whole families on on the water's edge watching a gator swimming to shore. I had to remind them how fast a gator can move and to not stand so close, especially when they are moving toward you! I have a very healthy respect for those creatures. :-)
