Description
The bleeding heart vine is a beautiful flowing flower vine. It has a white base with the deep red or crimson colored petals emerging from the base. It is sometimes called a bag flower because of the shape of its petals. Because it is rich in nectar, it is very attractive to butterflies. Its scientific name is Clerodendrum thomsoniae, sometimes referred to as C. thompsoniae. It is definitely not related to the common bleeding heart (Dicentra spectabillis). It gets its name because it looks like a drop of red blood is dripping out of the flower. Image taken in Tampa, Florida.
